The UN has said that India now has the largest number of AIDS infections, as the spread of the epidemic that has claimed 25 million lives shows no signs of letting up."I think we will see a further globalisation of the epidemic spreading to every single corner of the planet," UNAIDS chief Peter Piot said.

NEW DELHI: A specially designed train, called the Red Ribbon Express, aimed at creating awareness about HIV/AIDS never chugged. But it figures in a booklet on the achievements of UPA government. In its report card released on the occasion of UPA government's second anniversary, the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS), an organisation under the youth affairs ministry, called the train as an effort to mobilise the communication efforts in generating HIV/AIDS awareness.

NEW DELHI: A woman is raped every half an hour in India, while one is killed every 75 minutes -- usually burnt to death for not bringing a large enough dowry.

Violence against children rose by nearly a quarter in 12 months and recorded cases of female foeticide increased by a half in 2004, according to the National Crime Records Bureau.

Panaji, May 31: The Director General of Police, Mr Neeraj Kumar today informed that Goa will have United Nations Office on Drugs and Crimes and the office will be known as Goa anti-human trafficking unit. The office will be set up within the next 2 to 3 months and added that the office would provide Goa police logistic support and some funds.
